Calbee~

It all started with the old Calbee BBQ Chips... *digs for pic on the net* *can't find any*

Was an elongated bright yellow foil pack with it's trademark mister-universe-banner potato at the front. I've spotted it tonnes on Hongkong drama serials, but apparently the new packaging took over for good.

Those chips were simply the BEST I've ever eaten in my life, perfect crunch, perfect aroma, perfect 咸度 and decently sliced. The only complain's how prone it was to mishandling... choose the wrong packet and you come home with potato powder. The chips did not taste like BBQ at all though, was something so unique it's one of a kind.

Sidetrack: If you're looking for BBQ Chips, Ruffles has them.

Calbee then unleashed it's second wave of goodness - 热浪! The grandfather of all Hot & Spicy potato chips. The excellent blend of spices and paprika made you tingle and crave for more after each bite, like an addiction. And then there's the somehow-fascinating foil packet that you could stare at all day while happily crunching away.

And while Twisties dominated the Singapore market, people who knew their snacks picked up Grill-a-Corn - a far superior corn snack. G.A.C had a robust baked-corn flavour and did not leave grains unpuffed, or sticks overcoated with seasoning powder. By then, 我已经是卡乐B的人了...

God must've wanted to stop me from sinning any further; because one fine day, all me favourite Calbee snax disappeared! No more BBQ Chips, no more 热浪, no more Grill-a-Corn! Some big conspiracy left me a broken boy, never to see his favourite 零食 again...

Years down the road, Calbee snax began to repopulate the shelves of me neighbourhood Econ Minimart and NTUC. But they were no longer the same, sub-par looks and futile attempts at imitating their past products left Gary disappointed time and time again =(

I miss the old Calbee....
